Open Doors Reengagement Program

About

About the Program

The Ferndale School District Open Doors (FSD-OD) Re-engagement Program is dedicated to providing essential education and support services to older youth, ages 16-21, who have either dropped out of school or face significant challenges in graduating from high school by the age of 21 due to credit deficiencies. Our comprehensive program is designed to re-engage students, offering a structured and supportive pathway to achieve their educational goals and prepare for future success.

There are two primary pathways to cater to the diverse needs and aspirations of our students: 1) GED pathway and 2) High School Diploma pathway.

FSD-OD is committed to ensuring that every student receives the guidance, resources, and encouragement needed to succeed. By offering tailored pathways and ongoing support, the Ferndale School District Re-engagement System strives to empower students to overcome obstacles, achieve their educational goals, and build a foundation for a brighter future.

Available Pathways

GED+ Pathway: This option allows students to earn their General Equivalency Development (GED) credential, which signifies that they possess high-school-level academic skills. Through coursework and passing the four subject tests, students demonstrate their academic proficiency. Upon completion of the GED pathway, students have the opportunity to continue within FSD Open Doors program to earn a high school diploma. The work towards the GED is monitored by endorsed teachers, ensuring that they are on a clear trajectory towards their educational milestones. Regular meetings to review Indicators of Academic Progress (IAP) and attendance are integral to this pathway, ensuring that students stay on track and receive the support they need.

High School Diploma Pathway: This pathway is designed for students who wish to earn their high school diploma through an alternative educational environment. Utilizing the a variety of platforms, students can complete their required coursework in a flexible and supportive setting. Students may also earn credit through the GED+ progression, allowing for a blended approach to meeting their academic requirements. The diploma pathway aligns with the 24 credit requirements set by the Ferndale School District (FSD) and is monitored through regular reviews of IAP, high school courses, and attendance.
